Going back in time to the 1900s, specifically the 1980s and 1950s, The musical, Back To The Future, shares the thrilling storyline from the previous 80s motion picture and was also brought to life by the film’s originators, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. The high-spirited and colorfully loud play tells the story of Marty McFly, who accidentally discovers time travel.
The show is set in motion as Marty McFly experiences a regular routine in a young man's life, slacking around (specifically in their school band) and spending time with his significant other, while continuously being utterly inquisitive of the things he finds. His inquisitive spirit ends up as his distinct inconvenience, as upon making contact with Doc Brown one day, the doctor proclaims that is the first time traveler to make a transtemporal device (which turns out to be the DeLorean) function. An unusual hazard that takes place during their meeting forces Marty to unknowingly use the DeLorean, startling him and transporting him backwards to three decades ago in 1955. Originally in awe of what just happened to him, Marty McFly eventually realizes that to make his way back to his own time, he needs to also correct history, and the younger versions of the people he meets, back to the right track.
Heavily inspired by the feature film it was adapted from, each set design of Back To The Future acts as a callback to the locations from the movie, encompassing Doc's lab, the McFly's house, Hill Valley High School, and several locations in the Hill Valley community. Both the stage and costume creations also give reverence to both the 1950s and 1980s. Back To The Future The Musical's move to the West End stage gave another avenue for audiences to see one of the premier franchises ever made, while implementing adjustments and improvements only achievable in a stage adaptation.
