Based on thriving center of the 20th century in Montmartre in Paris, France, watch one of the hopeless yet romantic narratives from New York following Christian, an aspiring American writer, and Satine, the entertainer of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, as they fight for each other for the the sake of love. Taken from the famous 2001 film by the renowned Baz Luhrmann, the award-winning film-turned-musical of Moulin Rouge evolved from a wishful hope of theatregoers to an actual live staged performance that in the end produced successfully on the theatre setting and began in 2019.

Since its debut in Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2019 up to its present run in Des Moines Civic Center, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has been one of the finest shows sought out by both locals and tourists alike. The show, being a colorful musical in both set and music, appeals to a large range of audiences and has cemented its place in Broadway history.
The musical shares the story of Christian, a driven American writer who journeys to Paris in search of inspiration and his big break, who then bumps into and eventually is swept off his feet by the famous performer Satine of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, one of the highly sought out nightclubs in Montmartre in the late 1900s. Their love however is more difficult than imagined, as the two begin to face a series of challenges, including the wrath of one of Moulin Rouge’s wealthy patrons, the duke of Monroth who wishes Satine for himself and bars Christian from openly declaring his love for her.
The title roles of Christian and Satine were originated by Tony Award winner Aaron Tveit (for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Karen Olivo (for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical) respectively. They were accompanied by a talented and famous actors and actresses including Danny Burstein (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical) making up one of the best Broadway casts. Behind the scenes, Tony awardees such as Alex Timbers (Best Direction of a Musical), Sonya Tayeh (Best Choreography), and Justin Levine with Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, and Matt Stine (Best Orchestrations) produce an excellent musical.
